About Us

We are a group of Christians called to live as disciples so that the world might know that God has sent Jesus Christ (John 17:11).

We are a national community, with branches in various parts of New Zealand. We live in our own homes, worship in our respective churches and pursue our own careers. But we share a common identity and the same prophetic call from the Lord.

Our aim is to help individuals to grow in conversion to Jesus Christ and grow in Christian maturity.

By being united in our call we aim to create a place where individuals and families can flourish, founded on Biblical values like Honesty, Honour and Celebration.

Our Purpose and Mission

Help Others

to help people come to faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and to receive the fullness of the power of the Holy Spirit.

Spread the Word

to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ in a de-Christianised environment

Live

to help people live the foundation teachings of the New Testament as normative for their lives.

Foster

to help foster renewal among the Christian churches through the re-establishment of properly ordered relationships and values.

Lead

to lead people into as deeply committed and mature Christian lives as possible in and through community life. Whilst the community concentrates on forming these values in the lives of those who are drawn to us, we also see the promotion of such values as a part of our wider mission.

What does Covenant mean?

We are committed to each other through our covenant of membership, so each member has a personal commitment to the other members and to our way of life.

Our covenant includes the following:

  • To become members of the Community through teaching, fellowship, the breaking of bread and prayer.
  • To participate in Community gatherings and teachings and to enter fully into Community life.
  • To receive one another and to forgive one another as soon as a quarrel begins. We will not hold grudges against our Brothers and Sisters in Christ.
  • To pray for and encourage one another, to serve one another and to share our needs.
  • To accept our leaders in Community and support their decisions in matters relating to the good order and life of the Community.
  • To accept those The Lord will add to our numbers.
  • To be of service to the Church when called.
  • To be of service to The Lord when ever He may call.
  • To speak in an upbuilding manner about one another and to guard against negative and destructive talk so as not to grieve the Holy Spirit.
  • To do all we can to preserve unity in the Community by acting in charity, selflessness of service, gentleness and showing patience to our Brothers and Sisters.

Who runs the community?

The life of the Community is overseen by a National Council of Coordinators chosen by Community members. There is a National Senior Coordinator and a group of senior women leaders who assist the National Council in caring for and leading the Community.

Does the Community employ anyone?

The community has a paid administrator. It also from time to time employs the services of paid legal and financial experts.

How is the Community financed?

The work of the Community is financed by voluntary giving by members.

Is it a Catholic Community?

Although many of our members are Catholics, we are ecumenical as we believe we are called to foster the unity of all Christians. While recognizing our differences, we look to see how we can share in the riches of one another’s Christian traditions and work together for Christ. The Community is also a member of the New Zealand Christian Network.

Is the Community approved by the Catholic Church?

Yes. The Lamb of God has a Catholic Fraternity which gives it recognition as a private association of the Faithful in accord with the norms of Canon Law # 298 – 300, 304 – 329.

Are there outside links?

The Lamb of God Community is part of an International Association of Christian Communities called the Sword of The Spirit. We believe the Community is part of what God is doing in the world today by transforming His people and reaching out to others who need to know His saving grace. Through the Sword of The Spirit we share resources, teachings and our experiences of living in a Christian Community.
